HANOVER, VA (WWBT)- A community in?Hanover?is celebrating, and it's?not just for the 4th of July - it's also to mark a new beginning for the King's Charter subdivision.
A?fire?devastated the community's club house more than a year ago. Investigators say it was set on purpose.?Today, the community unveiled it's brand new and improved clubhouse.
A?mini petting zoo is just one of a number of activities at the King's Charter community celebration.
"We have Jonathan the Juggler, we have snowcones, we have popcorn, we have face painting," said Ann Woods.
And good eats straight from the grill. It's all in honor of the community's new and improved club-house.
"It was literally just finished last week, and this is the first day we're able to occupy it," said Cass English. "Compared to the old house, we have expanded the exercises facilities. I believe we've almost doubled them in space."
Investigators say Jacob Spiro set several fires here last year, destroying the clubhouse and shutting down the neighborhood pool.
"When we got here, there was a lot of heavy fire in the rooftop area. It took multiple companies to get the fire under control," said Hanover Fire Chief Jethro Piland.
The community welcomed back the firefighters who battled the blaze. With the past behind them, this moment is all about celebrating.
"After that hard work and those many hours getting the blaze under control, to be a part of their celebration today is phenomenal," said Piland.
"People are thrilled to have their clubhouse back," said Woods.
And what could be a better way to culminate this kick off than to take a dip in the swimming pool? After all, it's been more than a year than this community has been able to enjoy it.
