Watch Out For These Holiday Packages Scams

Over the years, Indians on-the-whole have been come to know as a people who are always looking to strive a hard bargain when shopping. It is not much different when it comes to choosing between holiday packages. But this penchant for wanting to save some money in every purchase can sometimes lead to landing in a soup. So do watch out for these commonly perpetrated scams and do not fall for them:

Gift Vouchers: Really guys, there is nothing like a free lunch. If someone is giving away holiday gift vouchers, chances are that they would find the devil hidden in the fine print! It may involve an initial down payment, a lateral purchase of some commodity or service, etc. Even in cases where there is no apparent exchange of monetary gains, remember that one would still be parting with private data, valuable information about their habits and preferences that could then be sold to unscrupulous third-party marketers.

Spot Deals: Many-a-times, a call is received that mentions a now-or-never kind of a discount on that alluring holiday. All that is required is credit card verification and the deal is yours. Familiar? Then youll do well to calmly hang up on the caller. Such scams operate on the gullibility of people and use the credit card details for their own, personal gains.

Mobile Apps: Given the proliferation of web enabled handheld devices, the instances of malicious apps skimming user data are increasing with every passing day. All the major Mobile Operating System platforms are trying to stay on top in an attempt to weed out the nuisance, but they can only do so much. This is why, one must be ultra-careful when dealing with third-party apps that havent passed official muster.

The Social Conundrum: Social media platforms have become quite the rage as more and more people start to share their personal information online. Security is often lax as things are meant to be out in the open, but one could end up sharing more than they can imagine. For the greed of a social media discount code, they could end up giving control to brands with less than honourable intent.

So the next time that one decides to pack their bags and head out to the destination of the season do make sure that the due diligence is done. For a discount is not enough a reason to compromise sensitive personal information for the rest of life.
