Orphans and the Church: Guest Blogger: Joel Lueb

We thought we could make a difference for at least one child:

One child that could experience love

One child that could be held close as he or she longs for someone to care

One child that can be encouraged

One child that would know that he or she can trust someone

One child that could be safe and not abused

One child that could sleep through the night and not fear

We realized that God was not merely inviting us to participate with this endeavor but in a very real way He was calling us into this process. As we realized that God had given us what we had not for ourselves but so that He could use all of what we have and who we are for His purposes we felt compelled to live into His calling.?He loves us so we too can love.?

The process continues to be shaping for our whole family. We now have been fostering for 5 years and we have had the privilege to have 13 different children in our home from as short as a day to as long as 3 months...with one exception, and that is our youngest son whom God brought into our home so that we could be joined together as a family through adoption. He has been part of our family from the day he came to us now over 4 years ago.?

It was never about acting because we felt like we had it all together and had all the answers. Our step into fostering and ultimately adopting started with the realization that we needed to take a step of faith and trust God for what was to follow. The first step for us was to say yes to being a temporary place for a child in foster care that desperately needed care. Adoption was not our goal but God opened our hearts as we in faith stepped into that which God called us to.
